GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of the cafeteria manager and /or School Nutrition Supervisor for the Catawba County Schools School Nutrition Program. Including serving breakfast and lunch, prepping and preparing food safely, operating the computer at Point of Sale, handling monies, properly cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen and equipment. This position is exempt from Bus Training due to nature of the hours assigned in the cafeteria/s. Reports to the School Nutrition Office at the Central Office for daily/weekly work schedule.
**5 hours/day**
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Report to the central office designee for daily work assignments in your assigned school feeder area.
- Report to assigned kitchen and assist with the daily breakfast service and/or open a kitchen for a manager and prepare for daily breakfast service when needed. Document information on production records.
- Prep and prepare food for daily lunch service. Follow recipes and standard operating procedures.
- Follow food safety and sanitation procedures as identified in HACCP.
- Serve students using proper serving size utensils and know food component requirements for Elementary & Middle (K-8) and High School (9-12).
- Operate computer for Point of Sale, be knowledgeable of Meal Counting and Claiming
- Procedures (Cash Management)
- Assist with end of day cleaning and sanitizing.
- Adhere to each individual manager’s directions at the school in which you are assigned. Must be flexible and willing to work at any school assigned within designated school feeder.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or high school equivalent and one year of experience in food service, or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of food preparation and serving practices.
- Some knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Some knowledge of simple arithmetic.
- Some knowledge of computer skills to include operating a cash register and counting money
- Skilled in the use and cleaning of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Ability to perform basic cleaning operations (moping, sweeping, etc.).
- Ability to read and understand simple written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be physically able to operate cooking and kitchen equipment. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and assist with lifting boxes up to fifty pounds. Carts are used to transport heavy cases of food. Physical demand requirements are for medium work. Must be able to perform basic cleaning operation (sweeping, moping, etc.).
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms and recipes.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Verbal Aptitude: Must be able to communicate efficiently in Standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using kitchen utensils and appliances.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.
Must adhere to USDA (federal), NCDPI (State) and CCS (local) child nutrition guidelines.

Must adhere to Catawba County Schools Board Policies and the School Nutrition Dress Code and personal hygiene requirements.
